The Secret Origin of Spin-Man

COMICS IN PROSE. I am deliriously happy today because my story, "The Secret Origin of Spin-Man" (which previously appeared in Philippine Speculative Fiction IV) is now up online at Anna Tambour's site as the July feature of her Virtuous Medlar Circle. Anna Tambour's one of my favorite short story authors (she wrote such beautiful and memorable stories as "The Emperor's Backscratcher", "Klockwerk's Heart" and "Pococurante"), so it's a huge honor to be featured by her.

To top it all off, Jeffrey Ford (writer of "At Reparata", "Creation" and "Eelin Ok"--some of my favorite short stories ever) just wrote a lovely in-depth review of PSF4, where he had some nice things to say about my story:

"The Secret Origin of Spin-Man by Andrew Drilon -- Drilon is not only a fiction writer but a well known comics creator. I've read his fiction before and was struck by the inherent energy and willingness to take chances. This particular story, though, surprised me in that it was a more traditionally written and structured piece with a much more personal story about comics and brothers and where we find ourselves after the years have passed. Beautifuuly written with real emotional impact.

Hooray for Spin-man! Thank you, Anna, for featuring the story, and thank you Jeffrey for the kind words!

If you haven't been able to pick up PSF4, or if you missed it the first time, I'd like to invite you to read "The Secret Origin of Spin-man". It's my most personal short story yet and I'm really proud of it. You can check it out over HERE. :D
